Timothy O’Sullivan

At an early age, Timothy O’Sullivan (1840-1882) gained a reputation for his photographs of the Civil War that conveyed the physical and psychological tolls of warfare. He participated in survey expeditions after the war, and his photos serve as both scientific documentation and artistic evocations of immense and fantastic western landscapes.
